What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is where the therapist takes the clients into their subconscious mind, this heightens the clients concentration, enabling a greater response to suggestions, in order to make their desired positive changes to their thoughts, feelings and behaviour. We all, at some point or another, shift from our conscious to unconscious mind, it is a very natural state of mind, this allows our mind to wander into a daydream.

Will I go to sleep?

No, you give the impression of being asleep because your body is totally relaxed but a "hypnotic sleep" bares no resemblance to normal sleep. You will be fully aware of what is happening and being said to you during each session, even though you might not consciously remember, your subconscious mind would have taken it all in without you realising.

Will you be able to control my mind?

Absolutely not. You will have control of your own mind at all times, you can not be made to do anything you don't want to do. Nothing will be said to you, that is not for your benefit and if you didn't agree with something said, your mind would simply reject it.

Can I get stuck in a trance?

No, it is impossible to get stuck in a hypnotic trance, sometimes the client feels so relaxed that they feel a little reluctant to end the trance but they never stay in trance. You can open your eyes at any time during the session, immediately ending the hypnotic state.

Will I tell you something that I don't want you to know?

No, you will remain in control of your mind at all times during the session.

Is it safe and are there any side effects?

Hypnotherapy is completely safe and is a natural way of using your own inner resources to reorganise your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, in order to reach your desired goals. There are no side effects, after the session you may feel very relaxed but it is safe for you to continue your day like normal.

What happens during a session?

In the first session, you will have an initial free consultation, where you can talk to the therapist about your issue/s that you are seeking hypnotherapy for and any relevant history. You will then have a bespoke script, written personally for you which will include deep relaxation and positive suggestions based on the information given and the issue/s that you want to address. Each session will normally last for 50-60 minutes and the amount of sessions depends on each individual client, the usual being 4-6 sessions, we aim to help you achieve your goal for therapy as quickly as we possibly can.

Are my personal details kept confidential?

Absolutely, yes. Every therapist is a member of the Hypnotherapy Society and we have to abide by their strict ethics and codes of conduct. Every therapist has a supervisor too, this is to ensure that the therapist is working within their capabilities and with the best interest of the client, and no personal details will ever be disclosed to them or anybody else.
